Dog Fouling Campaign

Many children in St Machan’s had raised concerns about the amount of dog fouling taking place on the paths on the way to school.  The Pupil Council had asked Mr Hood if they could do anything as a school to help encourage dog owners to tidy up after their pets.  The children thought it would be a good idea to run a poster competition for P4-7 and involve the younger children in choosing winners.  The Pupil Council then contacted East Dunbartonshire Council and the Community Warden Team came out to help.  They went with the Pupil Council on a walk round the local community and were shocked at the dog’s dirt they saw.  They agreed to have the children’s winning poster designs made into durable all weather banners which can be mounted on to lampposts and railngs.

There were 6 finalists chosen in the poster competition and 3 overall winners whose poster designs have now been made into banners.  The runners up in the competition were Aiden Allan, Niamh Kerr and Fallon Dochery and the winners were Erin McGovern, Zuzanna Fortuna and Erin Howard.  Well done to them all.  Thanks to Councillor Dempsey and Councillor Geechie for coming along to offer support for  the good work of our children.
